Medical Mission to Berbice Guyana April 13th, 2024.
Successful Medical Mission in Collaboration with the Rotary Club of Georgetown
On April 13, 2024, our organization, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Georgetown,
successfully conducted a medical mission at the Port Mourant Estate Medical Clinic, generously
supported by the Guyana Sugar Corporation. This mission was strategically scheduled on a
Saturday, coinciding with market day, to ensure maximum community participation.
Our organization previously donated approximately US$10,000 to the Rotary Club of
Georgetown. These funds were allocated to support various medical missions, educational
programs, and other community projects. This particular mission was a testament to the
impactful use of these resources.
Primary care physicians attended to 200-300 patients, providing essential medical services. In
addition, we distributed fifty blood pressure machines and fifty glucometers with test strips to
those in need. The Ministry of Health’s local vaccine team was also present, offering vaccines
such as tetanus and yellow fever.
Understanding the importance of addressing basic needs, our organization donated 160 bags of
rice to vulnerable groups, including single parents and pregnant women.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the following individuals for their dedication and hard work
in making this mission a success:
Mr. Sasernarine Singh, CEO of the Guyana Sugar Corporation
Mr. Y Manna, Managing Director of the Albion Estate
Dr. Ravi Swammy, Medical Director of the Guyana Corporation
Dr. Amanda Baromasi, Physician
Dr. Karol Richards and Dr. Balichand Permashwar represented our organization.
After the mission, we were honored with a tour of the Karibee rice factory and enjoyed a
delightful meal prepared by the Estate cooks. The highlight was the delicious seven curry
dishes, adding cultural richness to our experience.
This mission exemplifies the power of collaboration and community support in making a
tangible difference in people’s lives. We look forward to providing essential health ser vices and
education to underserved communities.
